About Us
Our Story, Our Mission

A registered charity supporting adults with learning disabilities in Worcestershire since 2021.

Who We Are

Founded on a belief that animals and nature change lives.

Areterra was founded by Robert Kilburn — Bob — who spent over 40 years supporting adults with disabilities across Worcestershire. Having seen first-hand the impact of isolation and limited community access, Bob identified a clear gap: a lack of stimulating, animal-focused day opportunities in the local area.

Areterra opened in May 2021. All staff are DBS checked, qualified support workers. Every session is personal and every person is valued.

Our Mission

We believe support should be personal. That every adult with a learning disability deserves meaningful opportunities — not just to be cared for, but to contribute, grow and belong.

Our Journey

From a single idea to a thriving community project.

2020

The Idea

After 40+ years supporting adults with disabilities across Worcestershire, Bob identified a gap — a lack of good quality, animal-focused day opportunities in the local area. Planning began.

2021

Areterra Opens

The site was developed from scratch — pathways laid, outbuildings refurbished and rewired, two aviaries built, a small animal hotel constructed and raised growing beds installed. Areterra opened in May 2021.

Oct 2021

Areterra was successfully registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales — Charity No. 1196211.

2022
